RE: DO NOT BUY FROM BEAUDRY RV

Where else should stuff like that be posted? The cooking forum? Let em post. Let us filter what we want to absorb and what we want to ignore.
Good point, Pirate. I don't think we need a third party to censure what is printed. MOST of us are adults and can read an item, or not read it, as we choose, and give it the credibility weight that we feel it deserves, if any.

RE: RGV park

We stayed at Mission Bell part of last winter and really liked it. All of the neighbors around us were very friendly, and the managers were as well. They have a huge activity center/ballroom with church services, dances, dinners, and lots of other things to do if you're interested. The pool area is beautiful, and they have a computer with internet access available in the library area. They also offer wireless internet for a small fee. We drove through Tradewinds as well, and honestly don't know which we liked better. Tradewinds sites seemed to be larger, with easier access, but Mission Bell was so friendly that we really enjoyed our stay there. I don't think you would be unhappy with either one. The only problem we had was getting cable TV....we had to make our own arrangements with Time Warner, and ordered it for a month. Then we started getting bills for months that we weren't even there. If you need cable, make sure that the rep writes on your work order EXACTLY how long you want the service for, and how much your TOTAL bill will be. That's the only thing that saved us a lot of extra fighting, but even with that we had to call them three times to get it resolved.

RE: Moving to Lawton o.k

Hey MichDoc,
Did you ever go to that Steak House in Medicine Bend? It had a lot of character and really good steaks. I wonder if it is still there?
No, can't say that I did. Actually, I don't recall ever going to ANY steak house's. I was in the army and making about $83 per month, so the most "expensive" place we ever went to was the Shakey's Pizza in Lawton, or the NCO club on post where beer was fifteen cents and whiskey was a quarter. :B I don't recall any Medicine "Bend", but I wonder if you meant Medicine Park. That was on the north boundry of Fort Sill. Here is a link to some Medicine Park locations that might look familiar. When I took my wife there this past March, I took her to the downtown area of Lawton to show her C and D streets where all the bars were (that we never went to, of course). ;) It's all gone now, and replaced with some sort of mall. I don't know why I expected it to still be the same.....it was 40 years since I was last there.....but it was really a disappointment. You were there a lot later than I was, so it may not be such a change for you. When you go back, check out the Granite Point RV Park....we really liked it there. Enjoy your stroll down memory lane when you go there.....it's amazing how you can enjoy going back to a place that you really hated when you were there.....must have been the surrounding circumstances, I guess!

RE: Moving to Lawton o.k

I spent over a year stationed at Ft. Sill in the 60's, and remember the winters being cold and wet, and the summers hot and dry. And the few mountains in the area were not high enough, or expansive enough, to afford much cooling relief. However, that part of Oklahoma had some nice areas, such as those around Mt. Scott and the Wichita Wildlife Refuge, Lake Lawtonka, and some others. Very few woods and forests in that part of the state, but a lot of history. Also, it's a lot like Texas in that things are spread far apart, so plan on doing a lot of driving. We stopped there in March of this year on the way home from Texas, and stayed at Granite Point RV Park, which has a great view of the lake and Mt. Scott. It's brand new, and nicely set up, and the owners are great. We stopped for two days, but stayed almost a week. This would be an ideal base of operations for you while you checked out the rest of the area.

RE: A CAMPGROUND WITHOUT HOLIDAY SPIRIT ?????

There's more to this than the one-sided article states. Typical news writing slanted toward one viewpoint.
-Tom
Okay, so what is it? Don't keep it a secret. From what the manager said (wouldn't you consider that the other side of the story?), the new owner company didn't want to participate any longer. Maybe they just want to recycle the cans themselves for their own use.

RE: Interesting article? Hope there is no truth to it.

Although this is certainly a problem for the U.S., it's a global problem as well, and Russia is having its own financial problems. And if our "financial experts" can't forsee the future, I don't know how this guy feels that he can. It's interesting that he sees Russia as a Eurasian "regulator" when they couldn't even keep the old Soviet Union intact, and wants to see the ruble as the regional currency. I think Putan and his cronies, including this guy, are just the slightest bit ethnocentric, and are using Americas problems to make themselves feel that much more important.

RE: A revoultion in air travel comfort.....

We used to cringe with disgust at the sleazy, smelly, dirty, overcrowded Grayhound Busses and their stations. Now the airlines and airports have BECOME the new sleazy, smelly, dirty, overcrowded Grayhound Busses and stations!

RE: Batteries Stolen. How do you protect?

A length of chain tightly over each box (still use the nylon strap to hold them down) secured with a padlock. Do the same thing with you propane tank(s). Isn't it a terrible indictment of our situation that we would even have to think like this??? ....Brian
Unfortunately, you are so right. I chained the tanks down, and they stole the propane tank cover! Then I chained that down, and they opened the water heater access panel and stole the electronic control module!

RE: Encore RV park Crystal River, Florida

We were really disappointed with the Crystal River Encore park (actually called Crystal Isles). Some sites are so small that you just can't get into them. The no-see-ums are horrendous, and it's just not being kept up very well. Encore seems to have gotten a bad reputation over the last few years, and from most of the others we have checked out, well deserved. The corporation that owns all these parks seems to be more interested in making a fast buck from the first time visitors than it is in getting repeat business. I would agree with Tom N's RV park recommendations as well.

RE: Now I see why

Part of the problem with vehicle pricing is that all of the cars and trucks now come OVER EQUIPPED. I went looking for a new "second" car, just to use around town, and couldn't find any that didn't have heated seats, power side mirrors, 16 cupholders, AC inverter, super snazzy trim package, $3000 stereo system, OnStar phone system (you don't have to subscribe if you don't want it, but you still pay for the phone), GPS, cruise control, power windows, etc., etc. All I wanted was a "plain Jane" with A/C, simple radio, and all manual controls. And don't suggest ordering one from the factory because I tried that, and the salesman looked at me like I just spit on his shoes! He said it would take about 6 months to get it (no problem), and then added that it would cost MORE to leave things off than to just get them because "that's the way the factory does it". GM would probably do better if it went back to having one "cheap" carline, Chevy, like it used to be, and not keep building Buicks and putting Chevy logo's on them.

RE: Future without trucks

Trucks will still be built, and even the BIG, heavy duty trucks used for towing, hauling, off-road use, etc., will still be built, and will sell. The difference is that the they will be bought by people who NEED them, not by soccer moms and weekend cowboys who just bought them because they think they're "cool".

RE: Bait and Switch

This man is a horrible, nasty individual with a very bad temper. He had no contract only a receipt for his deposit. I tried to explain that L.K. one of my previous staff members made a mistake and miss quoted the price. He was very unpleasant and so was ask to leave the resort. I gave him a full refund to be rid of him. He was here to see friends who also work for me. They apologized for his behavior and promised to keep him away as this is his usual routine.

It seems to me that when a company accepts a deposit, they have entered into an agreement, i.e. a contract. Further, if an employee, who is a representative of the company, makes a mistake, the company should at least have the common decency to contact the customer and explain the situation, rather than waiting for him to arrive to give him the bad news, and then demanding more money. Otherwise, they should be bound by the quote, right or wrong, offered by their representative. Finally, in re-reading the original post, and the response from Westwind RV Resort, the attitude of the RV resort manager comes through loud and clear, as opposed to the calmer, matter-of-fact tone of the original post. Given that, I tend to believe the OP rather than the manager with the attitude problem.

RE: Probably not the best idea Big 3 if it is true

....after they file for CH 11 and shed some of the dead tree limbs and outrageous salary contracts, including top management contracts, which are looked at by the courts, they will emerge as a leaner and more profitable company. The best thing that can happen is to let them file CH 11.
Yep! There's nothing like reorganization under Chapter 11 to prove to a corporation just how many "absolute essentials" it can do without. They'll soon find that they don't actually have thousands of #1 priorities after all.

RE: Probably not the best idea Big 3 if it is true

If the Big 3 folds, will we be able to buy tanks and Jeeps from Russia if we encounter another 1944? Or will we only have air power?
If they fold, watch how quickly other U.S. companies fill the void. During WWII and the Korean War, rifles were made for the military by not only Springfield Arms, but also General Motors, Singer Sewing Machine Company, and numerous other non-firearms related manufacturers. Tanks, Humvees, and other military vehicles don't need automobile manufacturers to make them. I'm sure Peterbilt, Mack, Freightliner, Kenworth or any number of other truck manufacturers could fill the bill quite nicely.

RE: Ford and GM top execs refuse salary cut!

Ford and GM need to show those clowns the door. They say that they need top manager and I agree. We need to start chopping wood at the very top and replace them with some quality managers. It is obvious that they are not of the quality needed
Ken
Add the CEO of Chrysler to that, and I'll agree 100%. When corporations are doing well, the CEO demands huge bonuses because of the great job he's done. When the corporation is in the toilet, like the automotives are now, the CEO demands huge bonuses to attract great managers (apparently as "good" as the ones that put the corporation in the toilet!).

RE: Probably not the best idea Big 3 if it is true

This goes to show why the American auto companies are in such bad financial shape.....BAD DECISION MAKING! If I was one of the three CEO's, knowing we were going to beg for money and pleading poverty, we would have car-pooled in one car, stayed in the local Motel 6, and eaten at McDonalds. And I would have made sure that the news media knew all about it too! Now, they just look like self-important buffoons.

RE: Bait and Switch

I can understand completely. The exact same thing happened to us at Lagoons Resort in Rockport, Texas. In fact, it happened to several people around the same time. Unfortunately, disreputable and unethical businesses know that they have the "home court advantage" over an out of state traveler. All you can do is let people know (i.e. RVparkreviews.com) so that others aren't victimized.

RE: Old words you don't hear too often. Can you add to the list?

Does anyone remember a one-piece kids snow suit from the early 50's called a "Clad-Eez-Er"? I don't know how it was spelled, but it was pronounced as written in the previous sentence. I guess it was meant to imply that it made it easy to dress the little nipper.

RE: Old words you don't hear too often. Can you add to the list?

Question, what was the large flat area between the rear window and back seat called in old sedans?
We know a guy that had to ride there cross country as a child because he was the lowest in seniority lol.
It was called the package tray. And the "fashion" during the 60's was to have it "rolled and pleated", which I did on my Mom's '55 Chevy.
When I worked for Chrysler, everyone refered to it as the "rear window deck" or just "rear deck".
